The Toyota Tercel was a subcompact car produced by Toyota from 1978 to 1999. It was manufactured in the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Japan and came in five generations and five body configurations, positioned in size between the Corolla and the Starlet. The Tercel shared its platform with models like the Cynos and Starlet. Known as the Toyota Corolla II and Toyota Corsa in different markets, the Tercel was available at various Toyota dealerships such as Toyota Corolla Stores and Toyopet Store locations. The Tercel was heralded as Toyota's first front-wheel drive vehicle, although it was unique in having a longitudinally mounted engine, distinguishing it from the typical transverse engine
