The Lada Riva is a rear-wheel-drive, rear-engined compact car produced by the Soviet and later Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ from 1980 to 2012, making it one of the longest-running production runs in automotive history. Based on a licensed Fiat 124 platform, the Riva was sold across export markets including the United Kingdom and Western Europe, where its low purchase price made it a practical if basic alternative to contemporary Western offerings. Three principal variants defined the model's life: the 2105 saloon ran from 1980 to 2010, the 2107 upmarket saloon from 1982 to 2012, and the 2104 estate from 1984 to 2012. The car is widely known for its mechanical simplicity and ease of field repair, qualities that sustained its popularity in Eastern Europe and developing markets long after comparable Western designs had been discontinued.
